Welcome & Instructions for Application
We welcome you to our School of Music. As we begin working and studying together, several items of importance concerning the School of Music need to be explained.
1. To study in our school, you must complete the appropriate form and contact the Director, Dennis Adams, for placement in the school.
2. The cost for private, 30-minute, weekly lessons is $16 per lesson. The cost for Kindermusik is available from Peggy Watson, Licensed Kindermusik Educator.
3. There is an annual registration fee of $25 per student covering the Fall and Spring semesters and payable in September. This fee helps with instrument upgrades and upkeep.
PLEASE make your payment by CHECK to FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. You may pay weekly or monthly. If you pay monthly, please pay at the first lesson of each month.
4. We follow the Newport News Public School Calendar. When the schools are closed, so are we. This will apply even in inclement weather (snow, ice, hurricane, etc.). If your teacher chooses to teach when Newport News Schools are closed, you will be notified in advance.
5. Children should not wait for lessons without an adult. Also, parents should pick up their child promptly at the conclusion of his or her lesson.
6. In the event you must miss a lesson, and you cancel in advance, you teacher may schedule a make-up lesson. If you must miss a lesson, you must notify your teacher at least 24-hours in advance, or you may forfeit your missed lesson. Lessons missed without 24-hours advance notice will be charged to the student, except in emergencies. Please work with your teacher to keep missed lessons at a minimum. When canceling your lesson, whether in advance or on the day of your lesson, please contact your teacher directly. The church office staff will put a notice in the teacher's mailbox, but cannot be responsible for contacting your teacher.
7. The only telelphone line into the music area after 4:00 p.m.(when the church staff leaves) is 930-0042. Music students will not be able to get through to church on the other extensions after 4:00 p.m. Before calling the church, please try to contact your teacher at home.
8. The School Recitals are held each December and June. Most students are required to participate; only your teacher can excuse you from this activity.
If you have questions, or problems, feel free to call your teacher or the Director of the School, Dennis Adams at 757-930-0911.
